Normalize Breastfeeding On Guam Campaign (Part 2)

This weekend I had the honor and privilege of bringing together 11 brave and inspiring women to shoot a group breastfeeding photo. We all aim to support the normalize breastfeeding campaign here on Guam as well as throughout the world and combat the negative stigma that sometimes comes when women nurse in public.

Guam is lucky enough to have some great,supportive representatives on island that signed the Nana Yan Patgon Act or "The Mother and Child Act" into action. Without boring you with all the legal details, the Nana Yan Patgon Act basically a bill that was passed protecting the rights of nursing mothers on island in any way, shape or form and protecting nursing mothers from discrimination. It is basically the best thing that could happen for the Normalize Breastfeeding Campaign on Guam!

Because of this Act and the wonderful women previously mentioned, Ohrvall Photography was able to go out to a public beach on island and get some beautiful images of women nursing their babies and children in public! There were a lot of people at the beach that day because there was a race happening right at the time that we all got together. I have to hand it to all the mom's in the photos, not one was the least bit apprehensive about nursing their little ones out in the open. With so many people all around I am sure we attracted a lot of attention but I would not say any of that attention was negative.

When I left that shoot I was feeling very empowered about the normalizing breastfeeding campaign, very proud of the women that devoted their time to the session and honored to be able to live on an island that is so accommodating for nursing mothers.
